मिस्र की प्राचीन सभ्यता में मगरमच्छ का महत्वपूर्ण किरदार है. इसे वहां के भगवान से जोड़कर देखा जाता है. साथ ही इसे वहां पर पकवान के तौर पर भी देखा जाता था 

प्राचीन मिस्र में प्रजनन के देवता सोबेक को खुश करने के लिए लोग मगरमच्छ चढ़ाते थे. क्योंकि मिस्र की पौराणिक कहानियों के मुताबिक सोबेक ऐसे देवता थे, जिनका सिर मगरमच्छ का था और शरीर इंसानों का. जो ममियां मिली हैं, वो 10 वयस्क मगरमच्छों की हैं. इससे पहले भी मगरमच्छ की ममियां मिली हैं लेकिन वो छोटे मगरमच्छों की होती थी. पहली बार है जब इतनी बड़ी मात्रा में वयस्क मगरमच्छों की ममियां खोजी गई हैं.अगर आप इस तस्वीर को ध्यान से देखेंगे तो आपको लगेगा कि कीचड़ के अंदर मगरमच्छ धीरे-धीरे अपने शिकार की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं. लेकिन असल में ये असली मगरमच्छों की ममी है. मिस्र में बहने वाली नील नदी के पश्चिम में स्थित एक मकबरे में 10 मगरमच्छों की ममियां मिली हैं. इस मकबरे का नाम है कूब्बत अल-हवा. बताया जा रहा। 

ये है वो मकबरा जहां पर अंदर खनन के समय मगरमच्छों की ममियां मिली हैं.This is the tomb where mummies of crocodiles have been found inside during mining.

डॉ. कुपेरे ने बताया कि जब प्राचीन जीव पाते हैं कहीं तो आपको उस समय के बारे में कई जानकारियां मिलती हैं. जो दस ममियां मिली हैं, उनमें से पांच के सिर्फसिर वाले हिस्से बचे हैं. एक ऐसा है जो सात फीट लंबा है, और उसके शरीर का लगभग हर हिस्सा सही सलामत है. इन मगरमच्छों को रेज़िन से लिपटे हुए लिनेन कपड़े से लपेटा गया था. यानी अब वैज्ञानिकों इन मगरमच्छों की स्टडी करने के लिए सीटी स्कैन और एक्स-रे का सहारा लेना पड़ेगा.,

Even before this mummies of crocodiles have been found but they used to be of small crocodiles. This is the first time that mummies of adult crocodiles have been discovered in such a large quantity. If you look at this picture carefully, you will feel that crocodiles are slowly moving towards their prey inside the mud. But in reality it is the mummy of real crocodiles. Mummies of 10 crocodiles have been found in a tomb located westof the Nile River flowing in Egypt. The name of this mausoleum is Qubbat al-Hawa. Dr. Kupere told that when ancient creatures are found somewhere, you get many information about that time. Of the ten mummies that have been found, only the head parts of five are left. There is one that is seven feet tall, and almost every part of its body is intact. These crocodiles were wrapped in resin-coated linen cloth. Means now scientists will have to resort to CT scan and X-ray to study these crocodiles.
